The PL-300 — Microsoft's Power BI Data Analyst Associate exam — is one of the most sought-after data certifications in Canada and globally. But before you register, it's natural to ask: how hard is it, really? And what are the chances of passing on the first attempt?

Microsoft does not publish official pass rates, but after training over a thousand professionals for Microsoft certifications, I have a clear picture of where candidates succeed — and where they stumble.

What is the PL-300 passing score?

The PL-300 is scored on a scale of 1–1000, and the passing threshold is 700. The exam contains between 40 and 60 questions (the count varies by sitting) and includes multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, case studies, and scenario-based items. Roughly speaking, you need to answer approximately 70% of questions correctly to pass.

Can you pass PL-300 without prior Power BI experience?

Pure theory study without hands-on practice is a risky strategy.
